Miter saws today come in powered variants that mostly rely on electricity to perform the cutting action. However, in the past there were only manual miter saws that relied on manual labor to perform the cutting action. For this purpose one had to move a long straight saw mounted on a roller system along a guide line to and fro over the intended cutting surface in order to achieve straight or bevel cuts. Angles could be altered by changing the height of one side of the cutting board. This basic arrangement required a lot of practice and precision to perform correctly.
Today, with electric miter saws it is quite easy to perform precision straight cuts. One simply has to align the board perfectly and then lower the rotating saw onto the surface to perform the cut. For professional wood workers, the use of powered saws saves time and effort compared with manual saws. Moreover, maintenance and accuracy is better with electric powered miter saws.
